Job Summary

The Director of Content will devise and execute the omni-channel content strategy for SynBioBeta, leading a data-driven, analytical culture, where data and insights inform editorial and business strategy and decision-making.

The primary objective for this role will be to create integrated digital, multimedia, research and event content that drives SynBioBeta’s growth via strengthening the existing positioning, expanding audience, and serving as a year-round platform for the synthetic biology community through highly targeted and valuable industry intelligence.

In partnership with the Executive Team, this role will develop new commercially viable content products that will drive media, subscription, research and event revenues. The Director of Content will be an external, market-facing leader for the brand and will regularly host webinars, podcasts and video series - in addition to serving as a host and moderator of sessions at SynBioBeta’s events. This role will work closely with the internal team and industry partners, influencers and leaders on the development and distribution of content.

Key Responsibilities

Create and lead the content strategy for the brand

  • Develop, lead and manage the goals and delivery of editorial and commercial content programs, including identification of topics, speakers and content opportunities.
  • Develop, lead and manage the internal and external editorial calendar with integration and identification of new editorial content and commercial opportunities.
  • Partner with the Founder, and across the team, on the “voice” of the brand and ensure alignment with product portfolio.
  • Work with the team to create story-telling around brand, events, and digital media that drives marketing content, audience engagement, and supports revenue generation.
  • Manage the strategy and delivery of content revenue and profitability targets.

Lead with data and insights to inform near and long term solutions

  • Manage strategic reporting and dashboards that leverage existing and new data sets and serve as a tool for understanding the industry, current and future trends, and performance metrics.
  • Oversee testing, analyze performance data, and adjust resources to top performing content elements.
  • Stay current with industry trends and introduce innovation and best practices.

Lead, grow and develop the content team

  • Lead and develop the content team, including hiring, onboarding, employee development, goal setting, and performance management.
  • Manage and hire a network of freelance writers and contractors that represent the “voice” of the brand.
  • Identify and engage with new and existing partners to build out content opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of demonstrated professional experience and deep technical acumen in the synthetic biology, biotechnology, and/or related science discipline with strength in understanding company structures from start-ups to Fortune 500, preferably global reach.
  • 5+ years of experience in B2B content and information businesses.
  • 3+ years of experience creating and managing a P&L.
  • 3+ years of Department Leadership.
  • Experience diversifying and growing revenue streams and audience, via content.
  • Proven leadership skills with strong cross-departmental management skills.
  • Experience working at a high-growth, entrepreneurial business.
