Dr Isabel Webb is currently Head of Engineering Biology and Deep Tech Strategy in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) in the UK Government. This role involves leadership of the team developing Engineering Biology Policy for the UK, as well as providing cross-cutting coordination and support for DSIT’s emerging technology policy.

Isabel previously worked in the Business Secretary's Office as a Senior Private Secretary covering science, innovation and nuclear policy. Prior to that Isabel led on digital, tech and culture in the Prime Minister's Policy Unit, as well as previous policy roles in the Cabinet Office, Defra and BEIS.

Prior to joining the UK Civil Service Isabel completed a PhD in molecular microbiology jointly between the John Innes Centre, Norwich and University of Oxford. Her research focused on genetics and biochemistry of key proteins involved in biological nitrogen fixation.
