Job Summary
The new Plant Chemistry Manufacturing Director will be responsible for developing plant-based natural compound chemistry production capabilities, including manufacturing process, physical infrastructure, and hiring a high-performing professional team to support natural product scale up process. This individual will lay out the foundation for our new proprietary plant-based bio-manufacturing process. This position will report to Chief Technology Officer.
The successful candidate will display a combination of an entrepreneurial spirit, innovative mindset and solid process orientation to develop bio-manufacturing operations that meet the standards of excellence expected by our customers. Key Responsibilities:
Set up the bio-manufacturing operations that include physical process infrastructure and engineering processes for scaling up and manufacturing of plant-based compounds for our customers.
Build a motivated, high-performing professional team that will be responsible for chemistry-related support of plant metabolic pathway discovery and execute on bio-manufacturing operations, including process engineering and quality assurance/quality control.
Establish and direct the execution, resources, business processes, and new product introduction project oversight for bio-manufacturing operations. A key area of focus will be building the product life cycle business process, including defining the process validation strategy.
Collaborate effectively with internal design and product engineering groups within R&D and with customer engagement teams to successfully deliver new products to customers.
Provide bio-manufacturing process and product expertise to the customer technical teams to ensure product success and handoff of biomanufacturing processes and support to infrastructure partners.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Process Development, Chemical Engineering or a related scientific/engineering field
Solid understanding of chemistry processing technologies and chemistry production scale-up from bench through pilot to full commercialization
Proven proficiency in the field of manufacturing sciences, including scale-up, process risk assessments, process modeling, process automation and monitoring, and process validation
Proven ability to build and motivate a team, drive change and build a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
Good interpersonal, team, and collaborative skills to build effective relationships across functional areas (R&D, customer engagement team, supply chain)
Preferred Technical and Professional Experience
Previous experience in a GMP environment with demonstrated competency in the principles and practice of GMPs and associated regulatory considerations in a bio-manufacturing environment, including process, equipment and facility validation experience
Prior experience of successfully setting up new chemistry manufacturing process infrastructure, preferably in a GMP or pharma environment
Working knowledge of bio-manufacturing process equipment, automation systems, and manufacturing execution systems
Data analytics experience including development of Key Performance Indicators and deployment of data mining processes and procedures
