About Neoplants:
We’re an early stage biotech start-up founded by Lionel (Ex Google) and Patrick (PhD Genetic Editing, ENS), working on the first generation of bioengineered plants to fight air pollution. We start with indoor air pollution, which is up to 5 times higher than outdoors and due to a specific type of pollutants called VOCs. We create plants that can effectively remediate these compounds in your home. Our longer term ambition is to leverage our technologies for other large scale applications, such as carbon capture and storage. We are backed by top tier Silicon Valley and European investors and are currently based in Paris, France.

Job Description:
Plant Synthetic Biology Lead Scientist (Permanent position; CDI)
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated plant synthetic biology expert with an exceptional scientific background and proven leadership skills to join our R&D team. Your knowledge of plant physiology and genetic engineering, combined with your creative thinking and troubleshooting skills, will reinforce one of the core scientific pillars of this company. Your main focus will be to help design and ensure the correct introduction of synthetic metabolic pathways within our plants’ genome and metabolism. You will also use your great work ethic to drive a hard-working, fast-moving and exciting interdisciplinary team. We also expect great project and people management skills to achieve team goals within aggressive timelines.
Scope of position:
Lead and manage a growing team of 5+ scientists and engineers towards clear product development deliverables
Bring technical expertise in plant synthetic biology to actively support the definition and execution of our scientific strategy
Be heavily involved in strategic product roadmap decisions
Be a thought leader when it comes to building a world-class, high-throughput and happy R&D team in plant biotechnology
Design, perform, analyze, and interpret key plant physiology and metabolism engineering experiments and ensure the quality and rigor of their outcomes
Help design and test the non-coding genetic elements of our DNA constructs
Required:
PhD + 5 years experience in plant physiology, plant biotechnology, or plant genetic engineering
5+ years experience leading and managing a team of 5+ people towards audacious goals and deliverables
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Very strong team spirit
Extensive experience in plant biotechnology or genetic engineering
Good knowledge of molecular biology
Proactive and action-driven mindset
Extreme scientific rigor and attention to details
Proficiency in English
Nice to have:
Leadership experience in a start-up
Good knowledge of plant C1 or aromatic metabolism
Experience in implementation of synthetic metabolic pathways in plants
Experience in in silico analysis of metabolic fluxes
Bioinformatic skills
Excellent English writing skills
