General Role Description

This role is an integral part of the early team at Ayana Bio. We are looking for candidates who are driven to help shape Ayana Bio’s technology and excited to support our mission of democratizing standardized and safe ingredients for consumer nutrition, health, and wellness.Your primary role will be to support the Platform team by performing analytical assays for targeted analysis of nutrients and bioactives contained within cell lines. This position requires a versatile skill set, including expertise in analytical chemistry, method development, technical report writing, and communication. To thrive in this role, you should be a self-motivated problem solver with an eye for detail and consistency who relishes the opportunity to create something new and important. This position is full-time and located in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities

● Perform chromatography- and mass spectrometry-based qualitative and quantitativetechniques to characterize plant cell metabolites

● Perform plate assays for high-throughput spectrophotometric analysis of plant cellmetabolites

● Create data reports to support cell culture development and bioprocessing

● Carry out basic laboratory maintenance tasks, such as preparing fresh mobile phases,discarding hazardous waste material, monitoring gas levels, and replacing parts.

● Follow procedures for monitoring upstream and downstream bioprocesses

● Synthesize or procure authentic standards

● Identify un/known impurities contained within products

● Support other areas within Ayana Bio, including process chemistry, engineering, intellectual property, strategy, regulatory, safety, product development, pilot scale manufacturing, and partnership development

Desired Experience and Capabilities

The successful applicant will have:

● A Bachelor's degree with 0+ years of experience in life sciences, such as Chemistry,Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or similar

● Relevant experience working in a biochemistry and chemistry lab

● A working knowledge of chromatography-based (e.g., familiar with the principles ofHPLC, LC-MS, or GC-MS) and fluorescence/absorbance-based (spectrophotometricplate assays) analytical techniques

● Interest in natural products

● Experience synthesizing or procuring authentic standards

● Exceptional written and verbal communication and an ability to work acrossorganizational boundaries (e.g., keep physical or electronic lab notebooks up-to-date,create data reports, and draft standard operating procedures)

● Excellent data management and organizational skills (i.e., can stay organized and on topof key details that support plant cell line development and analysis)

● An interest in learning new topics quickly

● The willingness to prioritize and pivot in a fast-paced environment

● Ability to stay up to date with primary literature
