The Role
Macro Oceans is looking for an innovative Scientist to work on our bioprocessing technology platform and product pipeline. You will be part of our Science & Engineering team, based at our pilot facility in West Sacramento.
As a Scientist, your initial responsibilities will be:
Conceptual design of biorefinery processes including relevant documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, BOMs, and layouts
Construct, commission, startup, and optimize lab scale and engineering scale unit operations
Developing novel seaweed-based products based on an extensive literature review and wet lab experiments
Working closely with engineering and product development teams to develop product formulations to meet our customer’s specifications
This position is perfect for a recent Masters graduate or post-doc looking for an opportunity to develop cutting edge technology at a fast-paced, mission-driven startup.
Your Technical Qualifications
Masters or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Biochemistry, or another relevant field
Good working knowledge and practical experience of wet-lab (bio)chemistry
Experience with biomass conversion techniques including chemical extractions, fermentation, separation and purification
Your Job Qualifications
You can design and execute your own experiments with a high degree of conviction, precision, and speed
You are a self-starter, motivated and accountable for your own work
You can analyze complex data to produce insights and conclusions
Awesome if you have these too
Experience with techno-economic modeling and life cycle analysis
Carbohydrates separation and purification techniques such as chromatography
Biofermentation techniques
Startup experience
