Job description

We are currently seeking a scientist to support the projects related to metabolic engineering of conventional and non-conventional microbial hosts for the production of plant and microbial secondary metabolites. This position will focus on genetic modifications of fungal and bacterial strains and the candidate is expected to have a strong background in molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, metabolic engineering and other related disciplines. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to develop creative solutions to challenging problems, are essential.

  • Routinely develop microbial strains using a combination of classical genetics, synthetic biology, genome editing and adaptive evolution methods.
  • Apply molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and genetics methods for recombinant protein/enzyme expression, analysis and purification.
  • Engineer metabolic pathways for the production of desired compounds and optimize the cultivation conditions.
  • Develop high-throughput methods for the detection and quantification of target metabolites and work with the automation team for high-throughput screening.
  • Operate laboratory and experimental equipment such as spectrophotometers, centrifuges, HPLC, FPLC, LC/MS and GC/MS.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to accomplish project goals and milestones.
  • Routinely tracking and documenting results in laboratory notebooks and databases.
  • Analyze, summarize, and present experimental results to team leader and other team members.

Job Requirement

  • A Master's Degree or Ph.D. degree in metabolic engineering, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or other related fields.
  • Have experience with several different microorganisms.
  • Must have strong technical skills in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry, such as recombinant DNA technologies, gene knock-in and knockout, cell transformation and culture, protein expression and purification, and other more advanced molecular biology and biochemical techniques.
  • Familiarity with diverse software packages for protein structure and modeling analysis, data processing and statistical analysis, primer design and sequence blasting and alignment.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques for metabolite detection such as spectrophotometers, HPLC, LC/MS and GC/MS.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently while also possessing exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
