Inscripta was founded in 2015 and recently launched the world's first benchtop Digital Genome Engineering platform. The company is growing aggressively, investing in its leadership, team, and technology with a recent $150mm financing round led by Fidelity and T Rowe Price. The company’s advanced CRISPR-based platform, consisting of an instrument, reagents, and software, offers a fully automated workflow that enables multiplexed, trackable editing of cells at an unprecedented scale. Inscripta’s mission is to enable scientists to realize the full potential of biology. Due to rapid growth, Inscripta is seeking a Senior Scientist or Senior Engineer for our Systems Integration team to develop the next generation of DNA editing tools. This position will be located in our Pleasanton, CA office.


Summary

We are looking for an outstanding Senior Scientist or Senior Engineer to drive our early-stage CRISPR-based DNA editing instrumentation through to commercialization. This individual will innovate in areas of hardware automation, mammalian cell handling workflows, and testing for product qualification. Daily activities include: design and execution of key experiments carried out as a team using prototype instrumentation, data analysis and visualization for presentations, and active participation in cross-functional technical discussions. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the development of an automated genetic-engineering platform from prototype instrumentation through to a robust commercial product.


Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific expertise towards building Inscripta’s high-throughput genetic-engineering platform (protocol development for automation, instrument design, consumables design, software features).
  • Execute complex, highly-multiplexed experiments within a dynamic team of passionate scientists and engineers.
  • Develop robust system performance through elegant and automated workflows.
  • Perform fundamental cellular and molecular biology techniques: PCR, mammalian cell culture.
  • Conduct statistics-based data analysis and communicate recommendations based on technical results.
  • Maintain detailed experimental records and contribute to writing and editing SOPs.
  • Present clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in bioengineering, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, cell biology, or molecular biology or a related discipline with direct cell biology experience.
  • Candidates must have at least 2 years of relevant industry experience. Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
  • Experience converting prototype devices into fully automated modules or instruments, which include, but are not limited to, microfluidic and milli-fluidic systems. Candidates with leadership experience in developing and testing that led to a commercial launch is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated record of innovation in tools development for cell biology. Experience with mammalian cells is a plus!
  • Familiarity with next generation sequencing, sequencing library preparation, and other genomic platforms.
  • Proven ability to apply statistics to quantitatively interpret results and make data-driven decisions.
  • Desire to work in a team environment and collaborate closely with other cross-functional and geographically-distributed teams. Occasional US travel to other offices may be required.
  • Effective in a dynamic environment and working across all stages of development from R&D to commercialization.

Inscripta offers a competitive base salary, bonus plan, benefits package, 401k match and an attractive equity program to all team members. Starting Salary Range: $110,000 to $140,000 per year. This salary range provided per current averages and expectations. The salary and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
