AMSilk's Bioengineered Yarns Shine in Balenciaga’s Couture Collection

AMSilk's innovative silk proteins make a significant appearance in Balenciaga's latest fashion showcase, highlighting sustainable luxury.

AMSilk, a global leader in advanced biomaterials derived from silk proteins, has announced that its bioengineered yarns were featured in Balenciaga’s 55th Couture Collection. An evening cocoon gown, crafted from an AMSilk-blend fabric, was showcased as part of Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli's debut Couture Collection for Balenciaga. This design illustrates the versatility and inherent lightness of AMSilk’s bioengineered yarns, marking a significant milestone in the company’s pioneering collaboration with the luxury fashion house.

The partnership reflects the luxury fashion industry's growing commitment to scalable, sustainable alternatives to traditional fabrics like silk. At the same time, it highlights the evolution of AMSilk’s bioengineered yarns, which maintain high standards of quality and aesthetics. Ulrich Scherbel, Chief Operating Officer Premium Filaments at AMSilk, stated: "Seeing our material feature so prominently as part of the Balenciaga Couture Collection is a meaningful milestone for AMSilk. Haute Couture has always been defined by exceptional craftsmanship and extraordinary materials. For us, this latest application represents an important validation of our technology and demonstrates the growing potential of biotechnology-enabled materials in luxury fashion. We are proud to be advancing this journey together with visionary partners such as Balenciaga."

AMSilk’s advanced biomaterials are inspired by spider silk. By decoding and reengineering nature's protein blueprint, AMSilk produces silk proteins through precision fermentation and transforms them into wet-spun filaments. This results in a unique filament designed for luxury-grade aesthetics and consistency, while being fully compatible with established textile manufacturing processes like knitting, weaving, dyeing, and finishing. Completely protein-based, fully biodegradable, and free from microplastics, AMSilk’s advanced biomaterials signal a new era in material innovation.
