Bristol Myers Squibb to Build the Most Powerful AI Factory in Life Sciences with NVIDIA

Bristol Myers Squibb is set to enhance its AI capabilities with a significant investment in NVIDIA technology, aiming to revolutionize drug discovery and development.

Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY, “BMS”), a leader in biopharmaceuticals, has announced plans to expand its computing infrastructure by deploying an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD with DGX Vera Rubin NVL72 systems. This initiative will provide BMS with the most powerful and energy-efficient NVIDIA infrastructure in life sciences.

The upgraded Vera Rubin infrastructure will significantly enhance BMS’s scientific and computational capabilities, offering up to ten times greater performance per megawatt compared to its predecessor. This advancement will enable BMS to handle larger and more complex AI workloads without a corresponding increase in energy use.

This investment builds on nearly three years of collaboration that began with BMS's initial deployment of NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD infrastructure to support its Research and Development efforts. It marks an important step in scaling BMS's AI-driven scientific programs across various fields, including oncology, hematology, cardiovascular, immunology, and neuroscience.

BMS’s focus on AI-powered research is already transforming its approach to medicine discovery. For example, AI agents that automate target identification and validation are saving BMS scientists significant time, allowing them to concentrate on hypothesis testing and critical scientific decisions. Additionally, through the company's “Predict First” approach, AI-generated predictions guide experimental design, impacting both small and large molecule programs. This strategy illustrates BMS’s commitment to creating an integrated, AI-powered learning system that enhances decision-making throughout the drug development process.

This expanded agreement highlights BMS’s vision of hybrid intelligence, where AI systems and human researchers collaborate closely. The Vera Rubin cluster will support this model by providing the computational backbone necessary for developing next-generation foundation models that leverage BMS's extensive proprietary data. It will also utilize domain-specific tools from BioNeMo, NVIDIA's biological AI platform, enabling researchers to evaluate hypotheses at an unprecedented scale.
