Bristol Myers Squibb Unveils $2.3 Billion Manufacturing Campus in Houston
The new facility aims to enhance biopharmaceutical production while creating nearly 500 skilled jobs in Texas.

Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY) has announced the establishment of a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing campus in Houston, Texas, with an investment of approximately $2.3 billion. This facility, located at Generation Park, is set to create nearly 500 skilled jobs and is designed for long-term growth and adaptability, supporting the delivery of next-generation medicines.
The Houston campus represents a significant step in BMS's ongoing commitment to invest $40 billion in the United States over five years, focusing on research and development, technology, and domestic manufacturing. The modular and multi-modal design of the campus will allow for flexible manufacturing of various types of medicines, including small molecules, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates, across multiple disease areas. This adaptability ensures the facility can evolve to meet the needs of patients well into the future.
Christopher Boerner, Ph.D., Board Chair and CEO of Bristol Myers Squibb, expressed confidence in the investment: "This investment reflects our confidence in America's continued leadership in biopharmaceutical innovation. As part of our $40 billion commitment to the United States, we're building the domestic manufacturing capabilities needed to deliver the next generation of medicines and support future scientific breakthroughs. Houston and the state of Texas offer the talent, infrastructure, and partnership needed to help bring that vision to life."
Texas Governor Greg Abbott praised the initiative, stating, “Texas is a global hub for life sciences, where today’s innovations shape the future of healthcare. This $2.3 billion investment by Bristol Myers Squibb in the dynamic biotech ecosystem in Houston is a testament to the depth of our skilled workforce and the pipeline of talent coming through our nation-leading technical colleges and research universities. With lower operating costs and easy access to markets across the U.S. and the world, Texas drives affordability for consumers.”
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick emphasized the broader economic implications: "We are making pharmaceuticals in America again thanks to President Trump’s America First Trade Agenda. Bristol Myers Squibb’s $2.3 billion investment in Texas will create hundreds of high-paying jobs and strengthen our pharmaceutical supply chains, ensuring America is never reliant on foreign sources for critical medicines."
Karin Shanahan, EVP and Chief Supply Chain and Operations Officer of Bristol Myers Squibb, noted the strategic importance of the facility: "Our decision to build this state-of-the-art manufacturing campus in Houston, Texas, reflects our confidence in the region’s ability to support a world-class, digitally advanced supply operation. This facility is designed to deliver the speed, quality, and reliability that patients depend on, combining flexible, modular manufacturing with advanced digital capabilities to ensure consistent supply across multiple modalities."
The Houston campus will span approximately 600,000 square feet, designed for flexibility and long-term growth. It is strategically located in Generation Park, a 4,300-acre hub for life sciences and advanced manufacturing, also home to other major players in the industry. The construction is expected to create around 2,000 additional jobs, supporting the local economy.
BMS's investment not only enhances its domestic manufacturing capabilities but also reinforces the resilience of the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain. With the biopharmaceutical industry employing over one million workers in 2022, this new campus is set to contribute significantly to the local and national economy.
BMS's commitment to Texas is evident as the company continues to collaborate with local contract manufacturers and has established numerous clinical trial sites throughout the state. This investment reflects a long-term vision for the workforce, communities, and patients who will benefit from the medicines produced in this new facility.
