Covation Biomaterials (CovationBio), a prominent player in sustainable biomaterials, has named Steven Ackerman as its new Chief Executive Officer. With 15 years of experience in sustainable materials, Ackerman has a strong history of promoting high-performance, bio-based products for the global market. "It's an honor to step into this role and lead CovationBio into a new era of sustainable innovation," says Ackerman. "The growing global need for sustainable material innovation is clear. We'll continue to build on our strong foundation to deliver even greater value to our partners and the planet."

Ackerman takes over from Dean Trivits, who served as CEO after Michael Saltzberg's retirement in 2023. Since joining DuPont Biomaterials in 2010, and through the establishment of Covation Biomaterials in 2022, he has been instrumental in driving global growth, technical progress, and innovation within the Sorona® business. As the Vice President of Product & Technology, he fostered stronger connections between the company's global technology teams and its sales, marketing, and customer bases. His leadership has enabled teams across three laboratories to enhance manufacturing processes, support operations, and improve quality.

Ackerman's collaborative approach has ensured that innovation initiatives are aligned with market demands, paving the way for new applications of Sorona® polymer in fibers. Over the course of his career, he has influenced Sorona®'s global brand strategy, spearheaded business development throughout textile value chains, and led new product development initiatives. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Lehigh University and a Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Delaware.

"Across our brands, we're enabling entire industries to reimagine what's possible. I believe clear communication between our internal teams and external stakeholders is critical to our success," says Ackerman. "As we move forward, we'll embrace this collaborative approach as an essential ingredient for progress, expansion into new markets, and the creation of new sustainable solutions that benefit everyone in our industry, offer value to our end consumers, and respect our planet."

Covation Biomaterials, founded in 2022 and based in Newark, Delaware, is a leader in providing high-performance, sustainable solutions. Building on its DuPont legacy of scientific innovation, the company continues to deliver innovative solutions across various industries, including apparel, carpeting, cosmetics, food, and packaging. With product lines such as Sorona® polymer, Susterra® propanediol, and Zemea® propanediol, CovationBio aims to provide sustainable building blocks that make biobased products accessible to all.
