Bruker Expands Drug Discovery Capabilities with Majority Investment in MIMETAS

Bruker Corporation announces a strategic investment in MIMETAS to enhance drug discovery processes using advanced human tissue models.

Bruker Corporation (Nasdaq: BRKR) has revealed a majority investment in MIMETAS B.V., a developer of organ-on-a-chip platforms and human tissue models aimed at improving drug discovery and development. This acquisition will enhance Bruker’s post-genomic solutions in disease biology research and expand its reach into Microphysiological Systems (MPS), also known as New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), which are based on human physiology-relevant model systems.

MIMETAS specializes in scalable organ-on-a-chip solutions that enable the culturing and analysis of human-relevant tissues in a high-throughput plate format. The OrganoPlate® platform facilitates advanced disease modeling, drug testing, and safety assessments, showcasing features such as immune cell migration from a blood vessel, a vascularized liver model, a gut tubule, a colon organoid-derived tubule, and a vascularized lung model.

The company’s innovative platforms allow researchers to investigate disease mechanisms and responses to compounds in biologically relevant systems. The OrganoPlate® integrates with standard microtiter-plate formats and employs membrane-free microfluidic tissue cultures, which support imaging and automated handling, thereby enhancing research and development workflows. Bruker intends to merge these capabilities with its existing technologies in proteomics, metabolomics, NMR, preclinical imaging, and spatial biology.

The two companies plan to create integrated product and service workflows that link these human model systems with Bruker’s technologies for molecular and cellular characterization.

Financial specifics of the deal remain undisclosed, but MIMETAS will retain its established brand and management.
