Octarine Bio, a Danish company specializing in synthetic biology, has announced a strategic partnership and supply agreements with prominent Portuguese textile firms Impetus Group, Acatel Acabamentos Têxteis S.A., and Positive Materials. This collaboration aims to fast-track the industrial validation and deployment of PurePalette™, a new range of high-performance, bio-based dyes known for their low environmental impact.
The partnership creates a comprehensive value chain that encompasses dye production, fabric dyeing, finishing, and garment manufacturing. The objective is to showcase how PurePalette™ can be effectively integrated into current manufacturing systems, leading to substantial reductions in harmful inputs and carbon emissions associated with dyeing, all while maintaining high performance and color diversity.
In addition, the partners have signed a three-year offtake agreement for the supply and utilization of pigments and dyes created by Octarine Bio, highlighting a mutual dedication to incorporating PurePalette™ into the existing textile supply chain.
Impetus Group, Acatel, and Positive Materials will spearhead the implementation of PurePalette™, leveraging their expertise in materials, dyeing, and garment production. They will conduct tests of the dyes in real manufacturing environments, monitor their performance across various substrates, and ensure complete traceability.
“This partnership shows that PurePalette™ is ready for industrial use,” said Nethaji Gallage, CEO and Co-founder of Octarine Bio. “By working directly with experienced manufacturers, we’re taking a practical step toward replacing conventional dyes with better alternatives.”
Elsa Parente, Co-CEO of Positive Materials, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “This is a chance to test PurePalette™ across multiple materials and under normal production conditions. We can now focus on practical integration—not just experimentation.”
