Biomanufacturing Scale Up

Visolis Secures $2.86 Million Expansion from U.S. Department of War for Bioindustrial Manufacturing

Visolis has received a significant funding boost to enhance domestic production of essential chemicals and fuels for defense applications.

Feb 3, 2026

Visolis has announced it has secured an additional $2.86 million from the U.S. Department of War under the Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program (DBIMP), bringing the total funding from this program to over $5 million. This expanded award is aimed at further scaling up the domestic production of critical chemicals and fuels for defense and industrial applications.

The funding will support the scale-up of Visolis' non-toxic solvent technology, which is designed to replace hazardous legacy chemicals traditionally used in routine aircraft maintenance. This innovative solvent allows for the effective removal of coatings from aircraft landing gear, enabling maintenance crews to inspect for damage, wear, and corrosion while significantly reducing exposure to harmful chemicals. The goal is to enhance fleet readiness while prioritizing worker safety and environmental performance.

"DBIMP support allows us to accelerate scale-up of U.S.-based manufacturing capacity for chemicals and fuels that are essential to defense readiness and industrial resilience," stated Dr. Deepak Dugar, CEO and Founder of Visolis.

"This award expansion reflects continued confidence in our technology and its relevance to critical defense manufacturing needs," Dr. Dugar added. "With more than $5 million in total DBIMP support, we are able to accelerate scale-up of a safer, domestically produced solvent that addresses real operational challenges while strengthening U.S. bioindustrial manufacturing capacity."

The DBIMP funding is part of Visolis' broader strategy to establish U.S.-based manufacturing capacity for vital chemicals and fuels that cater to both defense readiness and industrial demand. The advancement of these technologies aligns with Visolis' mission to enhance supply chain resilience while minimizing reliance on legacy chemicals known for their safety and environmental risks.

Launched in January 2024, the Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program aims to bolster domestic manufacturing capacity for chemicals critical to national security, industrial resilience, and economic competitiveness. Under this program, selected companies receive funding to advance business planning, technical development, and facility readiness for U.S.-based bioindustrial production. The recent award expansion for Visolis reflects the progress made under its initial DBIMP award and supports ongoing developments toward deployment.
